Brahman Bhawan Ranch is a small, family-run operation breeding registered American Brahman cattle for heat tolerance, longevity, and quiet temperament — the way the Gulf Coast demands.
Every animal on our place earns its keep. We focus on calving ease, milk, structural soundness, and the slick-coated heat tolerance that makes Brahman cattle the backbone of southern beef production. Below are the services ranchers and 4-H families come to us for.
Bulls and heifers registered with the American Brahman Breeders Association, with full pedigree, vaccination, and EPD records.
Halter-broke prospects matched to a young exhibitor's experience, with month-by-month coaching from our family through county fair season.
On-ranch artificial insemination, heat synchronization, and ET work using semen from proven Gulf Coast and Texas sires.
Walk-the-land consultations covering rotational grazing, ryegrass overseeding, and mineral programs tuned for Acadiana soils.
In-state delivery in our gooseneck, and trusted hauler referrals for buyers in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
Every animal leaves with vaccination, deworming, brucellosis, and trich records — printed and emailed to your vet on request.
My grandfather ran a small commercial herd here in Lafayette Parish back when sugarcane still bordered the property on three sides. We sold off most of it during the eighties downturn, but kept the home place and a handful of gray Brahman cows that nobody had the heart to ship.
Brahman Bhawan Ranch grew back from those cows. Today we run roughly 200 head across 160 acres of improved bahia and bermudagrass pasture, with a covered handling barn, a 60-foot working alley, and a calving pasture you can see from the kitchen window.
Loose hide, short slick coat, and a higher density of sweat glands let Brahman cattle stay on feed when Angus go off it. Critical from June through September on the Gulf.
Tighter skin and natural oils mean fewer flies, fewer ticks, and less pull on your dewormer budget.
Our oldest registered cow, Pearl, weaned her thirteenth calf last spring. That's economics no terminal-cross herd can touch.
Brahman cows milk well into hot weather and protect calves against coyote pressure better than anything else we've run.
Cross a Brahman bull on your commercial Angus base and you'll see weaning weights jump 35–60 pounds — heterosis worth real money.
We cull hard for temperament. Every cow on the place will walk into the alley behind a five-gallon bucket without raising her head.
"Bought two yearling bulls from Lester back in 2021. Both still working, both still putting calves on the ground in 100-degree weather. Easy people to deal with."
— R. Doucet, commercial cow-calf operator, Vermilion Parish"My daughter's first show heifer came from Brahman Bhawan. Lester spent two hours teaching her how to set feet. She placed third at district. That's the kind of folks they are."
— A. Trahan, 4-H parent, St. Martin Parish"Honest pedigrees, honest health papers, honest prices. We've hauled four loads back to East Texas and never had a surprise."
— J. McAllister, Jasper, TXWe're happy to show you the herd, talk pedigree, and pull individual animals into the alley so you can size them up. Call ahead — Lester is usually out on a tractor.
